Their League Two rivals, Harrogate Town, accepted a substantial $630,000 bid for the 27-year-old striker. Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson revealed that the first hint of trouble came around 12:30 AM. He explained, “We worked hard on getting a deal that suited us and Harrogate. It was held up because Harrogate wanted to get players in themselves. For whatever reason, the deal didn’t get over the line. In these situations, we analyze why it (paperwork) didn’t get through. I have my thoughts on it. But that’s life and we move on.“

Despite their best efforts, the deal ultimately collapsed, leaving The Red Dragons and their fans disappointed. Phil Parkinson, a seasoned soccer manager at 55 years old, reflected on the situation, saying, “A lot of work had gone into identifying Luke, as we looked at players across the board. I felt he would be a good balance to the strikers we already had in the building.” 

Luke Armstrong, who had scored once in five games in all competitions this season, had taken matters into his own hands by going on strike in an attempt to secure a move away from Harrogate. Adding to the drama, Wrexham had to break the disappointing news to their fans just five minutes before their crucial clash against Tranmere Rovers in an early Saturday kick-off.
