Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has dropped a bombshell on the club supporters. The German tactician has announced his departure from the club come summer. It was a massive setback for the club, as the manager had settled well into their system. However, the Reds need to look into the future and will be in the hunt for a top name who can takeover Klopp’s role at Anfield.

The club could be linked to multiple top names in the coming weeks, with Klopp announcing his departure. The likes of Xabi Alonso or Roberto De Zerbi could emerge as the front runners for the job. However, names such as Jose Mourinho, Hansi Flick, and Zinedine Zidane, amongst others, could also take the helm of Liverpool come summer. Here are the top candidates for Liverpool:

1. Xabi Alonso

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso meets all the criteria to succeed Klopp at Anfield. The Spaniard has taken the Bundesliga by storm, similar to Klopp’s time at Borussia Dortmund. Leverkusen has been firing under all cylinders under Xabi, with the side currently on the top of the standings, with a four-point difference over Bayern Munich. The ex-Liverpool star has emerged as the front-runner for the job amongst the oddsmakers, with many believing Alonso to be the man to take over the German at Anfield.

2. Roberto De Zerbi

Many experts believe Liverpool could turn their focus to Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi if they fail to strike a deal with Xabi Alonso. De Zerbi has been applauded for this work with the Seagulls, with the manager using a similar style as Jurgen Klopp. However, Liverpool might have to fight some competition for the manager with the likes of Manchester City, also interested in his services if Pep Guardiola leaves the club in 2025.

3. Pep Ljinders

Lijnders has been with Klopp at Anfield for a while now and knows all the ins and outs of the club. Klopp’s assistant manager could serve as a great deputy to his predecessor if appointed as the head coach. However, this could be a big jump for the Dutchman, who will have to go through the trial of fire to prove with worth to the supporters.

4. Hansi Flick

The former German national manager seems one of the most suitable options to replace Klopp at Liverpool. Both managers share a similar system and love the pressing style of football. Flick’s appointment will allow Liverpool to stick to their roots while building on the system left by their former manager.

5. Julian Nagelsmann

The current German national manager could be another option to replace Klopp at Liverpool. Similar to Flick and De Zerbi, Nageslmann also loves using a similar system with an additional focus on his team’s pressing game. However, his appointment seems far-fetched at the moment, with the manager still on Bayern’s payroll. Liverpool might have to break the bank and pay a hefty $12 million release clause to appoint the German as their next head coach.
