Vinicius Jr Breaks Down in Tears Over Racism Question – “All I Want is to Play Football”
The issue of discrimination in soccer is persisting. Despite multiple attempts to curb the problem, the concern is not letting the sport function normally. Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior, who has been fighting the issue for a long time, was seen breaking down according to reports. Racist chants and gestures have constantly peppered the Brazilian winger both in the stadium and off the field. Amid the recently reported incident where Vinicius claimed to be insulted again during the game against Osasuna, the player has opened up about the issue.
Speaking recently, Vinicius expressed his disappointment with such insults. According to reports, Vinicius said, “The only thing I want is to play soccer and for black people not to suffer,“ citing his love for the sport and intent to play it for the people.
Vinicius had earlier promised to fight racism in soccer and said that he would not bow down. Over the past couple of years, the player has encountered several incidents. It started in the game against Atletico Madrid in September 2022 when the 23-year-old saw fans chanting racist slurs like ‘monkey’, which was condemned by him saying that such things were ‘unacceptable.’ Fans of the same club were seen offending the player in 2023 when they hung an effigy before their Copa Del Rey clash.

However, it’s not just Atletico Madrid fans. Vinicius Junior also faced abuse from fans of clubs like Valencia and Mallorca. The Brazilian player claimed bigotry to be very rampant in Spain but does not feel the entire nation is racist. Vinicius was further reported to say, “I am sure that Spain is not a racist country, but there are many racists and many of them are in the stadiums,” also claiming that most people don’t know what discrimination means. Hence, the player himself took the onus to bring in a change.
