The Premier League 2023-24 season has kicked off with excitement and anticipation, as fans eagerly wait to see how their favorite teams will fare. However, amidst all the anticipation and excitement, one team is notably absent from the Premier League this season – Leicester City, which has recently been struck with tragic news.
The former champions of the 2015-2016 season had a disappointing campaign last season. The Foxes finished 18th and subsequently were relegated. But their bid to bounce back has been overshadowed by a tragic loss that has left the soccer world in mourning. Leicester City, a club valued at a staggering $545 million, has been hit with the saddening news of the passing of their former chairman, John Elsom.

Businessman John Elsom served Leicester City for an incredible 19 years. Elsom was also a familiar and respected figure in the football community. Joining Leicester City in 1983, he held various positions within the club before being appointed as chairman in 1998. Under Elsom’s leadership, Leicester City also experienced significant success.

The club lifted the Leagues Cup and also competed in the UEFA Cup, the predecessor to the UEFA Europa League. His tenure as chairman came to an end in 2002, but his impact on the club was immeasurable. On August 17th, 2023, John Elsom sadly passed away at the age of 84.
