Things might have gone down the drain for USWNT star Alex Morgan. The San Diego Waves star picked up a rough knock against Orlando Pride in her latest NWSL outing. Morgan twisted her ankle in a rather unfortunate fashion. The injury is a colossal blow to Morgan’s hopes, with the player keen on securing a place in USWNT’s squad for the Paris Olympics. However, all isn’t lost for the star forward with fellow SD Waves teammate Abby Dahlkemper providing an update on Alex Morgan’s injury.

Dahlkemper, talking with the media, claimed that Alex Morgan is doing okay and is being evaluated by the medical staff. If everything goes well, the player should be in action pretty soon. While the SD Waves star had a positive update, head coach Casey Stones had a rather vague answer for the media. Stones stated, “Just briefed on it, something to do with her ankle. I’ve not heard anything more than that at the moment.”

Morgan was involved in a duel for the ball in the opposition half’s box as she jostled with defender Emily Sams and goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse for control of the ball. However, the player appeared to roll her ankle in the process as she went down in a considerable amount of pain. The San Diego Waves medical staff rushed to the field to treat the player before she limped out of the field with the help of the staff.

Alex Morgan’s injury a big blow for the USWNT!

Just when it looked like the former USWNT skipper was on the verge of reviving her career, a mistimed injury could throw a major wrench in her plans. With the Paris Olympics less than three months away, Alex Morgan’s injury is a massive blow for the national team. Despite being initially kept off the Gold Cup roster, Morgan made a big impact on the team coming in as an injury replacement. The San Diego Waves bagged 2 goals from 6 appearances, putting the team on her back.

With the Olympics hot on the heels, head coach Emma Hayes will surely be tested in her first major tournament. While the Chelsea boss has been phenomenal at the club level, it doesn’t always translate into international success. Alex Morgan’s presence with the squad could have been a big plus point for the team, considering the experience she brings to the squad. However, with San Diego Waves yet to issue an update on her injury, fans will hope that the player can recover in time for the Paris Olympics.
