As Jordan Henderson reportedly seals his move to Amsterdam, many predicted a power shakeup in the soccer world following the European exodus to Saudi. Being one of the key signings, Hendo captained arguably the best Liverpool side ever. However, his reunion with mate Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq hasn’t gone according too well. Hence, barely 6 months after signing the deal, the Englishman is set to jump ship. Interestingly, the club chairman does not seem too worried as he provided a brutally confident assurance claiming ‘there is no one greater than the entity‘ which was followed by a quick twist of events.

Jordan Henderson’s exit could be a result of Al Ettifaq’s recent results as they’ve been winless for a long-long time. A grand return to Merseyside always looked unlikely as Jurgen Klopp quickly played down the news.

Samer Al-Mishal, Al Ettifaq’s Chairman provided an update on the Jordan Henderson saga. His tweet read (translated via Google), “Al-Ettifaq fans, I hope you have complete confidence that there is no one greater than the entity. Whoever does not deserve his presence in my era will leave, regardless of name, position, and influence. While he has opted not to disclose the player’s name, there is little left to guess as to who is being referred to. Moreover, he gave a word of assurance to his club’s worried supporters.

He said, “I have great confidence in my work team and the loyal players, and god willing, we will return with victories and championships.” Interestingly, the Chairman’s tweet has since been removed and he later claimed that his account was hacked. Jordan Henderson who was signed for $15.4 million, has a contract running until 2026. He also commands one of the highest wages in the Middle East.

There were previous reports that Ajax and Juventus were very much interested in signing the ex-Liverpool skipper. Now, as per the Athletic, Henderson has agreed to a deal in principle to join Ajax. All that remains is the paperwork to be sorted as Al Ettifaq is preparing to terminate his contract.

Ajax, also said to be his preferred choice previously, sits 5th in the Eredivisie. They are now unrecognizable from the club they were a few years ago having reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2019. Hence a player with Henderson’s mentality and leadership would be a huge boost in the locker room and on the pitch.
