Recalling Wrexham AFC and Manchester United’s last meeting

Even though Wrexham AFC had a dream run in the FA Cup this season, the older fans wouldn’t want to remember the last time when these two soccer sides met. The last time Wrexham AFC faced Manchester United was on January 28, 1995. The iconic soccer giants clashed during the fourth round of the FA Cup. However, Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United came out victorious. The Red Devils thrashed the Welsh soccer club 5-2.

In retrospect, it was an iconic star-studded lineup for the Red Devils. Despite the absence of a lethal Eric Cantona, the English Premier League giants managed to score five goals. As part of the banter tradition in soccer, the fans from North Wales couldn’t stop singing, “Ooh ahh, where’s your Cantona?”. But that taunt didn’t age well at all.

Even though they departed with their tails between their legs, the older Wrexham AFC fans are still proud of that game because their club shockingly took the lead against the biggest club in England, at that time.

Owners Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, and Sir Alex Ferguson’s unique video announcement

The Hollywood celebrity duo decided to announce their iconic friendly game against Manchester United in a slightly twisted way. The video ad starts with Reynolds and McElhenney having a conversation with each other whilst staring at the laptop screen. The duo was waiting for Sir Alex Ferguson to answer the video call on the other end.

McElhenney told Reynolds, “I can’t believe that we’re about to talk with The Sir Alex Ferguson. Arguably the greatest football manager ever. He’s won 13 Premier League Titles”. However, the Deadpool star wasn’t the most confident. He nervously replied, “I know, I’m super nervous. I think he is a master intimidator”.

His co-star then assured him that he was overthinking the entire situation. He said, “Ryan he’s way past that part of his career. Plus, we’re playing a friendly match. So, I’m sure it’s gonna…”. At this very moment, Ferguson finally answers the call. But the English Premier league great has a very blank look on his face for the next minute.

The Wrexham AFC duo try their best to respectfully get Ferguson to speak something. They congratulate and compliment him in different ways, but to no avail. Reynolds finally breaks under pressure and ends up abruptly ending the call. The camera then pans toward Ferguson. For some reason, he is still blank.

His co-worker then walks into the room and asks him about the meeting. Ferguson finally says, “They were on mute. Never heard a thing”. In all honesty, what a classic promo! Very synonymous with how Ferguson used to treat his critics back in his day.
