Wrexham welcomed eight players to their side before it opened its first English Football League One campaign in 18 years. And the Welsh club has indeed started strongly, defeating Wycombe Wanderers 3-2 at home. Besides, their pre-season tour in America also yielded success. However, the Carabao Cup exit that came just before its League One opener is a hard-to-swallow pill for its Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Manager Phil Parkinson made 10 changes and yet failed to thrive against the Championship side, Sheffield United. And that is possibly why Parkinson is craving for more options.
Phil Parkinson strongly believes that Wrexham is equipped to thrive in League One. But, he would never say never to a signing or even two. “I don’t think we are a million miles off in terms of the numbers where we want to be. Obviously, we are always looking if we can add a player or two of quality,” said Parkinson, as compiled by The Leader.
Thereafter, the Red Dragons coach assured that its owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, would keep trying to get the player that they badly wanted. “We know the players we would like; we will keep trying to get the player or players in and if we do, great,” Parkinson added. Anyhow, the 56-year-old also mentioned he was eager to carry on with the current squad, which got amped up by eight new moves.

Uncovering Wrexham’s latest transfer rumors
Though Wrexham shook the transfer market with intense activity, it failed to bring in a striker in this transfer window. In a move to fill that gap, they are pursuing Sheffield Wednesday striker Michael Smith. The Sheffield striker is expected to part ways with the club and is a hot-shot target in the transfer market. Other League One and Championship sides also vie for Smith’s signature. But he seems more inclined to a Wrexham switch. The Welsh Dragons have even reportedly talked to the Sheffield Wednesday’s front office.

Is Ryan Reynolds doing enough to support Wrexham's ambitions, or does he need to step up?

It remains to be seen if Smith becomes that ‘one player’ Phil Parkinson wants. Smith’s potential move would indeed enhance the Dragons’ frontline in the initial League One phase, considering Paul Mullin might take time to return after surgery recovery. Reynolds and McElhenney have time till August 30, to engineer a couple of sensational deals. The earlier the better, as the Welsh side awaits two League One clashes before the transfer deadline day.
