Gerard Pique faces major criticism despite not being with FC Barcelona!
Without a doubt, it was a must-win game for Espanyol. The Spanish soccer club is currently under the threat of relegation. The home side did everything they could to distract the FC Barcelona players. In fact, before the game, they played a controversial song. At that time, both sides were warming up on either half of the pitch.

However, the former defender was nowhere to be seen at the stadium. FC Barcelona ended up comfortably winning the game with a 4-2 scoreline. The win meant that the soccer giants had won the title. But the fans didn’t allow the players to celebrate after they rushed onto the pitch.
This isn’t the first time that Espanyol fans have tried to take a shot at Gerard Pique.
Espanyol fans once mocked Shakira!
Back in 2016, FC Barcelona were facing Espanyol in the Copa del Rey quarterfinal. While they ended up comfortably winning the tie 6-1 on aggregate, the fans didn’t shy away from mocking Gerard Pique. At that time, Pique was an integral part of the squad. The fans held up banners that read, “Shakira es de todos”, which means, “Shakira belongs to everyone”.

Other than that, another banner also had Antonio de la Rua’s name on it. Shakira dated Antonio for about eleven years before falling in love with Pique. The Espanyol fans went quite hardcore on the veteran defender, and their taunts are still fresh in everyone’s mind. While FC Barcelona just won the league title, Gerard Pique also had major success in the inaugural edition of the Kings League.
