Argentine tennis player Diego Schwartzman recently opened up about his experience with Lionel Messi. He said, “The words don’t come out. The same thing happens to all of us. It doesn’t matter if you saw him once, his presence inhibits you a lot and nothing.” It seems the 4-time ATP Singles winner was too excited and was short of words. The tennis pro was in Miami and also got the opportunity to interact with some of the other soccer players.

Despite talking to Argentina Maestro, it appears that Schwartzman does have a regret. “I couldn’t thank him the way I would have liked…yes“, he said. Schwartzman is a huge soccer fan and had once said that soccer was the sport he wanted to pursue. However, it doesn’t seem that he made a bad choice with tennis. Also, this is not the first time he has crossed paths with Lionel Messi. Back in 2018, he and the Inter Miami star met and one of the subjects discussed was the iconic Rafael Nadal.

Back in 2018, Lionel Messi and Schwartzman met in Russia. The Argentina team was preparing for the World Cup at that point. Lionel Messi did confront Schwartzman with an interesting question. He asked the tennis ace how lucky Rafael Nadal was.
The context was that Schwartzman and Nadal faced off in the French Open. The Argentine was leading the match comfortably, but rain interrupted proceedings. As the match resumed the next day, Nadal romped to an easy victory. Schwartzman has not won any Grand Slam title till now, but he can take inspiration from Lionel Messi who had to wait more than a decade for his first major title with Argentina.
