Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has made history following one of the year’s most outrageous performances. Despite being down by two sets, Sinner charted a comeback against Daniil Medvedev to bag the Australian Open title. With the world celebrating his achievement, Italian soccer legend Gianluigi Buffon was not far behind in wishing his compatriot. Buffon took to his social media to congratulate Sinner, thanking him for a brilliant birthday gift.
Sinner made one of the year’s biggest comebacks after being down by 3-6, 3-6 in straight sets. The Italian turned things around during the final three sets, taking Medvedev to his limits, winning 6-4, 6-4, and 6-3 to get his hands on his maiden Grand Slam title.

Buffon was amongst the fans who quickly took to social media to react to Jannik Sinner’s historic win. The 2006 soccer World Cup winner took to his Instagram to congratulate the twenty-two-year-old on his massive win. Buffon, in his message, stated, “Thank you for the birthday present Jannik!!! You were simply amazing!”

This is a big win for the 22-year-old who had a sensational run to the finals. Sinner came into the game on the back of a massive win over World rank 1 Novak Djokovic in the tournament’s semi-finals. However, things turned rough for the emerging star during the first two sets against Medvedev. However, the Italian star kept his composure with his tenacious efforts, helping him clinch his very first major silverware.

Medvedev praises rival after a bittersweet defeat

Daniil Medvedev was in high sports despite his rough loss against Jannik Sinner in the finals of the Australian Open. The Russian star congratulated Sinner on his win, stating, “I want to congratulate Janick because today you showed it again why you deserve it. So, winning a lot of matches and probably that’s not your last Grand Slam, but I hope I can try to get the next one if you play in the final because it’s been, what, three finals in a row!”
He then continued, “It always hurts to lose in the final, but probably being in the final is better than losing before. So, I guess, yeah, I have to try harder next time, but I’m proud of myself.”
