The World Cup is the biggest event in the domain of football. It’s the dream of every single player to represent their country in the tournament, and maybe even win it. However, that dream comes true for only a select few, and England players would want it to be theirs this time around.

Their team has never looked better, on paper. England reached the semi-final of the World Cup in 2018, and almost reached the final before collapsing against Croatia. They followed that performance with a fantastic run to the final of the Euros last year, but crumbled against Italy in the penalty shootout.

The next step in the future of this young team seems to be a fantastic performance in Qatar. However, things haven’t gone smoothly for Gareth Southgate’s men.

England and their results in the Nations League

England played in the Nations League this month in a bunch of matches against other nations. While the trophy isn’t given much importance, it’s still a competition where managers can experiment, and find their best elevens. In the four matches that England played in the Nations League this month, Southgate’s men managed to win none of them.

England faced Germany, Italy and Hungary (twice) in those four matches. While they did manage to get draws against Germany and Italy, they lost both their matches against Hungary, with the second being a 4-0 demolition. It wasn’t a good look just months away from the World Cup, and it seems like Gareth Southgate is in trouble.

The English manager has come under fire for his team’s performances with fans calling for his sacking. However, the English FA dismissed any ideas of a new manager and backed Southgate completely.
