Amid this, USMNT legend, Herculez Gomez took to Twitter and stated his opinions regarding the incident. Gomez, who is also a host at ESPN, shared in his tweet the video of the RFEF president shouting “I’ll not resign.

He also quoted, “I agree Rubiales shouldn’t resign. HE SHOULD BE FIRED! Get him out.”

Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian also expressed his concern regarding the kissing scandal and took to Instagram, sharing Jennifer Hermoso’s official comments regarding the incident, on his stories.

Rubiales refused to resign and stated the incident a ‘social assassination’

The expectation on Rubiales was to step down following the demands of many government figures and ministers for his exit. But, the 45-year-old RFEF chief had other plans, when he took center stage at the Spanish FA’s headquarters.

Rubiales claimed that his kiss on Hermoso’s lips was with consent and he did it in the same manner and spirit as kissing his child. “It was a spontaneous kiss, mutual, euphoric, and consensual,” said the FA chief. Although, when speaking about the kiss with Jenni Hermoso, she said, “I didn’t like it, but what can I do?”

Rubiales also stated that he has been a victim of a ‘social murder’ and called the backlash ‘fake feminism’. He added that he’ll defend his ideals and position at RFEF. Rubiales’ comments came right after FIFA stated that they’ll open proceedings against the RFEF chief to evaluate his conduct.

Spain’s acting deputy PM Yolanda Diaz also insisted on taking urgent measures over the RFEF chief and that he should not continue in the office. And after authorities took over the steering wheel on the matter, FIFA fired Rubiales hours ago as well.
