After Lionel Messi lifted the men’s cup, Argentina is planning to make a similar mark in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Although the women’s division that’s ranked 28th couldn’t make it past the group stage until 2019, they are all in this time aiming to win the prestigious trophy. But in terms of support, do La Albiceleste women get enough?
High hopes were bestowed on the men’s World Cup 2022, which seems blank for the women’s side. Daniela Lichinizer, a reporter for TN Deportivo, disclosed there’s hardly any applause for the Argentinian team. The champions of the world, including Lionel Messi, haven’t shown any support for the women’s team as we move closer to the tournament.

The national dream for the World Cup in both divisions might be a lot to ask, but the support for them could be on par considering the baffling fanbase that reveled in joy in December 2022.
Lichinizer pointed out, “I haven’t yet seen a video or a message from the men’s team supporting the women’s team before they go to New Zealand. That may change as we get closer to the World Cup. I hope it does.” However, the only time both of these teams were together was during lunch and a photo. Lionel Messi had shared some light moments with the team before the World Cup in France, in 2019.

Meanwhile, talking about the matter, Paulina Gramaglia, the Argentinian striker, compared the diverse objectives and winning instinct of both sides, as she said, “It is a big inspiration, but the expectation is not the same, We don’t have the same foundation that they have, we are not seeking to win the trophy. We have our own goals and our own context”.
Though this doesn’t downsize their performance in the upcoming fixtures, the lack of backing also can impact the team. The stage is set for the team in New Zealand, but that’s not the same for the fans as things stand.

Fixtures and promotions, the biggest setback for Argentina?
Women’s world cup 2023 can be a tough spot for Argentine fans to keep an eye on. The fixtures kick off at 3 am to 4 am midnight for Argentina against Italy and France. The time difference is a significant situation for the country to binge-watch the gameplay. Being 6000 miles apart, there’s also no way people coming down to New Zealand for the matches. Moreover, there’s no sponsorship portrayal of the women’s side. All these duly affect the awareness of the country in the World Cup.
