Lionel Messi surprised everyone by deciding to play for Inter Miami and join Major League Soccer (MLS). Messi had a big offer to play in Saudi Arabia but turned it down. Financial problems stopped him from going back to his boyhood club Barcelona. Instead, he chose to play for Inter Miami in the USA.

Since the news of Messi’s arrival, many people have become increasingly interested in Inter Miami. Consequentially, the team’s social media followers and ticket requests have gone way up.

Negotiations started 3 years ago to bring Messi to Miami

David Beckham was not surprised by the soccer star’s arrival in the USA. In an interview, Beckham revealed, “I have always said, from the word go, that if I had the opportunity to bring the best players in the game to Miami, at whatever time of their careers, I would do that. I have always made that commitment to our fans.”

Speaking about the negotiations to sign Messi, the Herons Co-owner Jorge Mas said, “[The negotiations lasted] three years. One-and-a-half years negotiating intensely. Lots of conversations with Jorge [Messi, Lionel’s dad]. I viewed it as done at the end of May. David talked to Leo, only over footballing topics, because he was still playing at PSG. He didn’t want him to feel any pressure.”
