Sourav Ganguly Promises to Lead BCCI the Way He Led India

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly shared his future plans after taking the charge as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He shared that Virat Kohli is the most important man in the Indian cricket right now and he will speak to him and support in every way possible.

“I will speak to him tomorrow. He is the most important man in Indian cricket as captain of India. I look it at that way. So we will have a word with him and as I said we will support him in every possible way, he wants to make this team the best in the world,” Sourav Ganguly said at the press conference on Wednesday.

Under Virat Kohli‘s captaincy, India have registered their 11th Test series win in a row at home recently by defeating South Africa 3-0 in the three-match Test series.

“It has been a great team to be honest with the way they have played in the last three to four years,” Sourav Ganguly added.

Ganguly, who was previously handling the role of the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), said he will lead BCCI the same way he led Team India.

“No compromise on credibility, corruption-free and same for all BCCI, just as I led India,” he said.

Ganguly is the first India cricketer after the Maharaja of Vizianagaram to become the president of the BCCI. He gave the examples of former BCCI presidents Jagmohan Dalmiya and N Srinivasan to explain how he got the support from them during his tenure as captain.

“Our focus is to make cricketers’ life easier. When I was the captain and Jagmohan Dalmiya was the president, I don’t remember that we asked for something and were ever refused. Virat is the captain now and we will have the same relations. Whatever he needs to help India play well, we will provide that to him. Kohli has taken the Indian team to a new level. We have been with him and we will be with him,” Ganguly added.

Sourav Ganguly became the 39th BCCI President, after being elected unopposed. Addressing the MS Dhoni conundrum that has been revolving since the World Cup, Ganguly said: “It depends on him [MS Dhoni]. I’ve always said when I was left out, when the entire world said he’ll never make it [again], I believed in myself and came back and played for four [international cricket for two] years. Champions don’t finish very quickly.”

“I don’t know what’s in his mind, what he thinks about his career. We’ll deal with that. He’s one of the greats of the game. India is very proud to have MS Dhoni. Even you sit down and take note of what he’s done, you say ‘Wow! MS Dhoni’. Till I’m around, everybody will be respected,” he further added.
