Marcus Stoinis

Marcus Stoinis Biography

Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis was part of the Australian side playing in the 2008 Under-19 World Cup. He has rubbed shoulders with the likes of Steve Smith, the late Phil Hughes, James Pattinson, Josh Hazlewood and James Faulkner.

A 19-year old Stoinis debuted for Western Australia in 2009. Sadly, cementing his berth in the squad proved more difficult than he imagined. So, he elected to move to Victoria in 2012-13 and ply his trade there.

With his terrific form, Stoinis soon caught the attention of selectors in the Victorian state team. He repaid the faith, with a massive 170 against Tasmania.

Soon, he established himself as a top run-getter for Victoria, amassing 785 runs at an average of 49.06 in 2014-15. He also found himself in the Australia A squad against India in 2015. Stoinis, smashed 77 runs and bagged 2 wickets for 18 runs in the first game. He was rewarded handsomely, with a national squad berth in ODIs. Marcus Stoinis was also included in a lone T20I against England in August-September 2015.

IPL Career

Marcus Stoinis is rightly dubbed a 'bonafide all-rounder', a rarity in the IPL. Stoinis is a player who has no qualms about batting anywhere in the order. He can even bowl anytime during the game and his fielding is spectacular as well.

Without a doubt, this is what cajoled the Royal Challengers into roping him from the Kings XI Punjab. Marcus Stoinis is a well-built man who can utilise his brutal hitting prowess to send balls into the stands.

He made his IPL debut in 2015 for the Delhi Daredevils but got limited opportunities. A year later, Marcus Stoinis was on the pitch in Kings XI Punjab colours. Inspite of an impressive international record, it mattered little for the Mohali-based team.

They staved off an early attempt from Royal Challengers Bangalore with a Right to Match card. It did burn a hole in their pocket, a 6.2 crore hole, during the 2018 IPL auction. However, another poor season meant that it was curtains for his KXIP stint. RCB knocked on the door again but did not go away empty-handed this time. However, Mandeep Singh was the sacrificial lamb just so that Marcus Stoinis could join.

IPL 2019 Expectations

Without a doubt, Marcus Stoinis is an excellent player. Skipper Virat Kohli will be hoping that Stoinis gets the monkey off his back and starts to deliver.
