Miguel Angel Garcia Cortez, or as he’s more commonly known, Mikey Garcia, is an American professional boxer of Mexican descent. He is one of the most famous boxers in the lighter weight classes and has previously held world titles in four different divisions.

He is a former unified lightweight champion, having held the WBC and IBF lightweight belts. Currently, he fights in the welterweight division and sits at #2 in the WBC, #3 in the WBO, and at #8 in the TBRB.

Mikey Garcia took up the sport almost by accident. Growing up, he wanted to become a police officer and was close to achieving his dream. However, as a 14-year-old, he stepped in to replace a fighter at the last moment.

A few months later, he added the WBO world super-featherweight title to his name by beating Roman Martinez. He then won the WBC world lightweight title against Dejan Zlaticanin in 2017 and unified the division with the IBF belt in 2018 by beating Robert Easter Jr.

Garcia joined an elite group of fighters who won titles in 4 different weight groups in 2018. The American beat Sergey Lipinets to win the IBF super-lightweight belt and etched his name among the greats of the sport.
