Mickelson became a star in college, winning three NCAA individual championships and three Haskin awards. But his biggest achievement as an amateur was to win a PGA Tour in his junior year in college. He is only the fourth player in PGA history to achieve this feat. Two years later, he turned pro, and started his journey as an all-time great of the sport.

Phil's current caddie is his brother Tim, who is working with him since 2017.

Phil Mickelson Family

Phil is the second child of Mary and Phil Mickelson Sr. His father was a fighter pilot, who in his free time played golf with his son, while his mother was a nurse. He picked up the sport by watching his father and copying him. Despite being a righty, he learned to play golf with his left hand after mirroring his father who was a righty. That is why he is nicknamed Lefty.

In 1996, Mickelson married Amy McBride, who also attended Arizona State. The couple has three children together, daughters Amanda and Sophia and Evan, their only son.
