Early Life

Born to Nancy and Frank Peter Rupert Hawk in San Diego, California on May 12, 1968, he entered the world of skateboarding when he was eight years old. Significantly, he got his first sponsor at the age of 12 from Dogtown Skateboards while turning a professional at the very young age of 14. Thus, his career as a skateboarder begins. By the age of 16, he became one of the best skateboarders in the world.

Tony Hawk's career

The legendary skateboarder became the National Skateboard Association world champion for 12 consecutive years; likewise, won 70 competitions in his career. Hawk invented many skateboarding moves like the gymnast plant, the ollie-to-Indy, the Saran wrap, and the frontside 540-rodeo flip.

However, things changed during the early 90s as skateboarding lost its charm. Hence, he was a pioneer in setting up Extreme Games (later X games) in 1995 as the sport got back its mojo. He won 10 gold, three silver, and two bronze medals in the X Games. Thus, his major career- achievement came when he landed the first-ever documented 900 (skateboarder revolves 900 degrees in the air). Hawk took eleven years to do it and could not hide his excitement after that.

After all the achievements, Hawk retired from competitive skateboarding but remained an advocate for most of the issues related to the sport. His success didn't stop there as he became the first person to gain approval on the grounds of the White House. The first-ever Hall of Ceremony of Skateboarding happened in 2009 as Hawk got inducted.
