Manuel Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini’s Net Worth, Salary and Endorsements

Chilean manager Manuel Pellegrini, like every football manager, has had some playing experience before marshalling a team from the sidelines. However, he primarily stuck to the Chilean First Division league. Then, in 1986, he unexpectedly took the decision to retire, influenced by a loss to a rival team.

Since then, he has taken up managing, starting off with the Chilean Second Division. Then, in 2001, he joined Argentine club, San Lorenzo and led them to their first international title.

A year later, he moved to River Plate and helped them to the Clausuro title. Unfortunately, the sale of star player Andres d’Alessandro, proved to be his unravelling.

He then joined Villareal in 2004, sending them into the Champions League and the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup. He guided the team as far as the the semifinals, losing only to Arsenal.

In 2009, after repeated advances from Real Madrid, he finally relented. Under his reign, he brought in several stars like Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso. Unfortunately, he had a difficult time with the Galacticos. It got to a point where president, Florentino Perez issued an ultimatum to win the La Liga title. Sadly, Real Madrid lost and Pellegrini was sacked and replaced by Jose Mourinho. What also did not help his case was the fact that he lost players like Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder. However, players who he wanted to sell, like Raul and Guti, stayed due to their political pull.

After a stint with Malaga, he joined Manchester City and guided them to the Premier League title in 2013-14. In the same year, he clinched the Football League Cup, repeating the feat in 2015-16. In 2016, when his contract expired, he parted ways with the club.

After leaving the Premier League, he was off to China as the manager of Hebei China Fortune. He stuck around for two years before returning to England, this time with West Ham United.

Among his various accolades, Manuel Pellegrini has won the Copa Chile, the Ecuadorean Serie A with LDU Quito, the Primera Division, the Premier League, and two Football League Cups, among other trophies.
