“Ten Doeschate has made his own luck in this innings. It’s been quite a magnificent knock,” said Ian Botham on air during the match (Netherlands vs. England). The hard hitter was on the attack after he got set and scored 119 from 110 balls which included nine fours and three sixes.

Netherland’s openers had given them a good start but England hit back and had reduced the Dutch to 58-2 when Ryan Ten Doeschate came out to bat at no. 4. Though he took 12 balls to get off the mark, he made up for it at the end scoring 52 of the last 26 deliveries that he faced. To his luck, he was timing the ball well and took the Dutch to a respectable 292.

England chased the target down in the 49th over comfortably, but the match is still remembered for Ten Doeschate’s brilliant century. He was a sensation in the World Cup and was a role model for the associate nations to look up to as he scored 307 runs at an average of 61.40.

Match Summary:

Netherlands 292/6, 50 overs (Ten Doeschate 119, Tom Cooper 47, Swann 2-35) lose to England 296/4, 48.4 overs (Andrew Strauss 88, Jonathan Trott 62, Ten Doeschate 2-47)
