With the island country of Australia ravaged by the wildfires, it has resulted in the destruction of 1,300 houses. Also, a total of 24 people have died. People all over the world are doing their bit to raise funds for the bushfire calamity which also involves the tennis players to a major extent. Maria Sharapova has pledged to donate US $17,400 (A$ 25,000) for Australia’s bushfire relief. Also, she urged World Number two Novak Djokovic for the same.
Following Sharapova’s tweet, the World Number two Djokovic responded.
Previously the Serbian tennis ace also expressed his kind gesture of the disaster in the island country of Australia.
Five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova has received a wildcard to feature at Brisbane International 2020. She will face a qualifier in her first-round clash. If she secures a win, the Russian will set up a clash against the top-seed Ashleigh Barty.
World Number one tennis player from Australia Ashleigh Barty will be donating her WTA Brisbane International’s prize money to the Australian Red Cross.
The fund-raising wave in tennis was kick-started by the Australian Nick Kyrgios. He will be donating A$200 for every ace he hits during the Australian summer. Following that numerous tennis players joined the movement.
The former US Open champion Samantha Stosur also joins the fund-raising campaign.
World Number two Karolina Pliskova will donate A$200 for every ace she hits during the Australian summer. In Brisbane, the second seed will open against the victor of Ajla Tomljanovic vs. Priscilla Hon.
The American Amanda Anisimova will be playing in Auckland and she will be opening against Kateryna Kozlova from Ukraine.
