Devin Haney is not buying into the social media rumors surrounding Tyson Fury’s gloves. In February ‘The Gypsy King’ stunned the undefeated Deontay Wilder in the 7th round. Wilder hit the canvas in the 3rd round but continued to absorb punishment before his corner threw in the towel to end the fight.

The internet made accusations against the winner. These included comments alleging Fury failed a drug test and tampered with his gloves. The WBC revealed both pugilists passed all random drug tests. However, the glove tampering issue remained.

The issue here is that he flicks his jab. In doing so, he manipulates his gloves to lower his hand within the glove. Such a tactic enables a boxer to punch without the padding i.e. punch bare-knuckle. In a chat with the Boxing Scene, ‘The Dream’ shared his views surrounding the bout.

“Let Tyson Fury enjoy his win” – Devin Haney

The 21-year-old who is currently on the sidelines after sustaining a shoulder injury terms the allegations as crazy. He feels ‘The Gypsy King’ should be allowed to enjoy his win if he didn’t cheat. The former Lightweight Champion says Fury should not be discredited if he did everything right.

“I seen the glove situation. I don’t know if it’s real or fake. The internet can make up anything these days so I am not sure. I don’t think it’s cool to be putting out rumors,” says Haney

Haney says that fights are always seen in real-time. As a result, no one scrutinizes how the gloves react. He adds that as people are paying attention to such minor details they may observe that other boxers’ gloves may do the same thing.

Wilder enacted his rematch clause. However, the Coronavirus pandemic will push back the July 18 target date. It will be interesting to see how closely the internet watches Fury’s gloves in his next bout against Wilder. The match is expected to take place around a fall date in October. That too will depend on the situation of the world nearer the date.
