John Isner and Team USA faced a shock defeat at the hands of Norway in their very first tie of the ATP Cup. The former world no 8 lost to the 21-year-old Casper Ruud 6-7 (3), 7-6 (10), 7-5 in a closely contested bout.
However, before the match began, Isner seemed pretty confident about the new year and the concept of the ATP Cup. The leader of the USA squad was pretty hopeful about team USA’s chances.

“I think the timing of the ATP Cup is perfect. And I can just speak of the enthusiasm of our team and the other players here in Perth and the other cities. We’re all very excited to be a part of this first-ever event. I think that’s the most important thing.”
John Isner further talked about the reasons why the tournament will succeed. The American believes that it has the backing of the players.
“The players are behind it. (It’s) a brand new event, unchartered territory for the ATP to have an event like this. So, to be a part of the first-ever edition of it is pretty special. So, for the timing, for me, I like it a lot.”
It is pretty clear that John Isner is pretty excited for the ATP Cup and for the new season.
John Isner is a pretty experienced campaigner now. The past few months have not been too good for the American giant. However, he will look to turn things around in 2020.
