WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is a hard man to please. However, it seems the WWE Network team has impressed him with the ‘Last Ride’. Vince took to twitter to praise the feature, stating, “You brought new life to the deadman.” Vince especially congratulated the main crew of the documentary, including Dan Pucherelli, Matthew Braine, Steve Conoscenti, and Brian D.
.@Undertaker: #TheLastRide has captured the incredible story of one of WWE’s most iconic Superstars. Impressive work by the @WWENetwork team, especially @DanPooch, @MatthewBraine, @SteveCono and @deekismanis. You brought new life to the deadman. pic.twitter.com/zZxmHGbOGS

The Undertaker, who debuted in 1990, is one of the best gimmicks created by Vince. The Phenom’s WrestleMania storyline is one such example. It took Vince 20-plus years to make it, and in a company where storylines are scrapped every month, this level of commitment is rare. Though The Chairman ended this storyline 6 years ago, he still uses the Deadman for important shows like the Saudi ones. The Deadman is also emphasized over younger talent like Roman Reigns.
This has also been one of the few instances Vince allowed Kayfabe to be broken. Undertaker’s character was specially protected for 25 years in the WWE lore. So, for Vince to allow this documentary to even praise it is a big deal. The 74-year-old seems to have become less strict about Kayfabe now in the digital world.
The ‘Last Ride’ is a five-episode documentary. It covers the last 3 years of the Undertaker’s journey, including all aspects of the Deadman. From the backstage production to his anxiety and self-doubt at his age, the feature makes the ‘Phenom’ look human. One story showcases his wife Michelle talk about how his coat caught fire during an entrance, and he wrestled in second-degree burns.
The documentary, so far, has received positive reviews. The next episodes will focus on the aftermath of the Undertaker’s WrestleMania match against Roman Reigns.
Producers react to Vince McMahon
All the producers thanked Vince McMahon. They all later tweeted about the best part of the documentary series.
Extremely humbling. The honor is all on our end when it comes to this project. It’s not lost on me how important this story is and I couldn’t be more proud of the entire team of people that made it happen. #TheLastRide https://t.co/QblHaZkxTD

Humbled. Honored. It took a village, the WWE Originals team, @amplify_films and most of all, the @undertaker, whose trust, integrity and honesty, made this all possible. Thank you 🙏 #TheLastRide https://t.co/LlyhfHrBG2

With this success, WWE might look for more documentaries in the future. There are many stars like Goldberg and AJ Styles who are approaching retirement. The fans would want to see the backstage environment, the production process, and the psychology of a WWE Superstar.
