Sofia Kenin was born in Russia but moved to the United States when she was very young.  When she was asked whether she spoke Russian, she said,

“Yes, I speak fluently Russian. I’m proud to be an American. I think it’s great that you know, we moved to America for a better life for me, and, yeah, I’m a proud American.”

She has made her love for the United States pretty clear in this last statement. As a result, a question was popped regarding whether she would ever go back to Russia. She replied by saying,

“Yes, Russia, there is no way, I don’t think I will be able to, because I don’t have a passport or visa because I had to give that up since I’m American.”

Sofia Kenin’s love for big stages was shown at the 2020 Australian Open where she rose to the occasion and managed to beat Garbine Muguruza. She did have to work to come back from a set down. But ultimately, she was the one who lifted the trophy.

After winning the Australian Open Sofia will be hungry to win some more titles. She will have to wait however as the WTA tour has been suspended. When it returns in July, she will be able to add to her collection.
