Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. could never have imagined that his first season with the Cleveland Browns could have progressed the way it did. Indeed, he wasn’t able to coordinate properly with quarterback Baker Mayfield and was plagued with injuries throughout the season.
Once a Pro Bowler with the New York Giants, he failed to perform at his peak after he donned Browns’ jersey. However, his experience at Cleveland was still much better than his performance with the Giants in 2017.
Former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber is hopeful that Beckham can return to his former glory soon enough. In the CBS Sports Podcast, the 45-year old said, “There’s something dangerous about Odell Beckham Jr. when he’s playing that way, and we haven’t seen it yet in Cleveland. If he can bring that back, it’s exactly what the Browns need“.
Barber further stated that the Browns need someone to take charge and lead from the front. According to him, Odell can be that guy who can turn things around for the Cleveland Browns.
He continued, “Odell Beckham Jr. wants to go back to his non-humble self. He dyed his hair back to his unique signature blonde that he sported when he was with the New York Giants as he tries to reignite once a rocketship of a career.
“The question is whether it’d work. I hope so. Odell is one of those players whom you love when he is in your team but you can stand when he is your opponent. No matter what you say about him, the skills and athletic ability make him one of the most important players on the field.
“And that’s exactly what the Browns need to pull themselves out of their doldrums. This is an urgency in Cleveland, not just for Odell but for Baker Mayfield, Myles Garrett, Jarvis Landry, and their inflated expectations.
“If Odell renews his old attitude, maybe they actually have a chance to be good.”
Expectations around Odell Beckham Jr. is higher than ever. The Browns would definitely want him to break his previous records and serve his latest employers.
However, the lengths that OBJ is willing to go to make good on his promises remain a mystery. It is something that only time can tell.
