The USWNT team will look to capture their fifth gold medal as they start their journey to the Tokyo Olympics 2020 against Sweden. One player who will play a big role in the squad’s success is Christen Press. In a team full of stars like Megan Rapinoe, Carli Lloyd, and more, Pres has recently grown on to become the team US’s most reliable and best player.

Press’s influence on the team has been nothing sort of phenomenal recently. She has been involved in 37 goals directly in the last 37 games for her country. So, needless to mention fans are looking up to the forward to deliver some world-class performances in Japan.

Since making her international debut in 2013, the Manchester United star has made a massive 149 appearances for her country so far. However, fans might remember the time when the team US crashed out of the Rio Olympics in 2016 after a loss against Sweden in the penalty shootout. Press missed her shot, unfortunately.

But she hasn’t let that incident overwhelm her career. In fact, the 32-year-old has only gotten better with time since then. In a 2019 interview, Press said, “I think when I look back on my career, all the moments that I’m most proud of have come after failure, That’s the easiest one to point at and look at, and look at that clear failure, and then evaluate how I did in responding to it.”

I think the strength that it takes to step back up and be courageous and let it go, and to continue to fight for your dreams and not let the outside noise affect what you’re doing, I am very proud of that,” she further added.

Can Christen Press influence USWNT to Olympic glory?

Team USA is currently unbeaten in 44 matches. The team is currently riding a 6-match winning streak. One can expect the team to achieve the same level of success as their recent form. They are certainly the team to beat in the tournament.

There’s no doubt Press will want to use this chance to prove that her miss against Sweden was just an unfortunate incident. She came on late as a substitute for Megan Rapinoe at that time. Team USA takes on Sweden in their first game on 21st July. Maybe, one can expect Press to start the game this time with the form that she is in.
