Tomas Berdych To Retire From Tennis at ATP World Tour Finals 2019

Former World Number four, Tomas Berdych will be announcing his retirement from tennis on Saturday. He will be present in London at ATP World Tour Finals 2019, and over there the Czech ace will officially bid goodbye to professional tennis.

However, it seems that the news was a little premature as Berdych wanted it to be a surprise.

This year, Tomas Berdych reached the finals at Qatar Open as an unseeded contestant and fell to the seventh seed, Roberto Bautista Agut in the title-match. He dwelled decently on the ATP Tour before the American Double Sunshine, but soon after his graph went down owing to his injury woes.

His hip injury has been prolonging for a while now and the former Wimbledon finalist, Berdych skipped the entire clay-court season this year. The 2010 Roland Garros semifinalist, Berdych flew to Paris for the French major this year, and he resentfully stepped down from the tournament pertaining to his hip issues.

Since the month of April, he won just a match in Winston-Salem. He was last seen on the courts of US Open this year. Berdych lost to the American, Jenson Brooksby 6-1, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the first round.

“My idea has more or less disappeared today,” he stated about next year’s presence in the tournament. “I need to be in my fifties by the end of the season to get to the big tournaments. But with zero points from the US Open, it probably won’t work.”

He has twice reached the semifinals at Australian Open, once made to the last four round at French Open and US Open, and has been the finalist at Wimbledon.

On Tuesday, Slovakian tennis player, Dominika Cibulkova announced her retirement from professional tennis. “My last match was at Roland Garros. I wanted to take time to find out how I feel about it, and I feel that today is the perfect day to do it. I’ve thought about it for a long time and I’m excited about my new life,” she announced.
