Did Tony Ferguson just let out a big hit that could reveal his next opponent?
While most fighters are finding it difficult to score just one match, Tony Ferguson might be inches away from securing his second fight for the year. With rumors flying all over the place, Ferguson took to social media to drop what we are taking as a hint. A hint of who he might be taking on in the octagon next.
His first fight of the year ended his 8-year-long undefeated streak. Ferguson was originally scheduled to take on Khabib Nurmagomedov in a bout that has a history of cancellations and postponements.
Looks like 5th time wasn’t the charm! This fight fell through due to the travel bans that were in place because of the global pandemic.
Justin Gaethje stepped up as Khabib’s replacement. In an absolutely dominating display of skill and precision, Gaethje ended Ferguson’s unbeaten streak and laid claim to the interim champ’s position as well.
Gaethje will now take on Khabib at UFC 254 for the undisputed lightweight title.
This loss didn’t push Ferguson too far down the ranks. He is still well and truly afloat and probably just one fight away from another shot at the title.
Tony Ferguson with his next fight will be looking to re-establish his position in the division and get back to winning ways.
Ferguson posted a picture on his social media with the caption, “I Pledge Allegiance To The Flag Of The United States Of America, And To The Republic For Which It Stands, One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, With Liberty & Justice For All.”
If you look at his post, you see he’s slyly dropped a ‘fight news soon’. What do you think that implies?
This is being taken as a hint to his upcoming fight against Dustin Poirier. Looking at a date in October, this fight is fast approaching. Though there has been no official confirmation as yet, Poirier too posted something about it on his Twitter page.
He posted a picture with the caption, “2 months away?” That is sometime in October as well. So all the signs seem to be pointing one way.
Do you think Poirier will take on Ferguson next?
