4. Call Of Duty 2

This game was a benchmark and set the standard for all the CoD games we have today. Taking place during World War 2, Call of Duty 2 was an absolute masterpiece. It featured 3 different campaigns: British, Soviet, and American.

The British campaign follows the story of Sgt. John Davis, under the command of Captain Price. This campaign takes you through Egypt to assault the German troops and concludes with the Battle for Caen. The Soviet Campaign follows the story of Private Vasili Koslov of the 13 Guards Rifle Division. From defending Moscow against advancing German troops, to taking back Stalingrad from them, this campaign has it all. And the American campaign involves playing as Corporal Bill Taylor in the assault of Pointe du Hoc. It also involves a sniper and a final mission where you have to defeat German Tiger I tanks. COD 2 was a pioneer for the franchise and there has been no looking back for Activision ever since.

3. Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

This is the story that introduced us to the infamous Zakhaev bloodline and showed us the heroics of Captain Price and John ‘Soap’ McTavish. The story takes place in 2011 where civil war breaks out in Russia and an ultranationalist group, led by Imran Zakhaev, takes control. Meanwhile, the US invades a country in the Middle-East due to political unrest. Soap is then recruited by Captain Price to the British SAS and they have the objective of putting an end to Imran Zakahev’s schemes. The game’s final mission includes foiling a nuclear strike on the US and killing Imran.

The game’s story is impeccable as it introduces us to urban combat in a very realistic setting. The level ‘All Ghillied Up’ is one of the best missions to ever feature in a COD game. The sheer setting of the mission will make your heart beat faster and you will feel the tension grow as you progress. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best COD games ever.

2. CoD: World At War

This is yet another title set during World War 2, but with a very different storyline. This also follows 2 different campaigns: American and Soviet. The game was quite revolutionary in terms of bringing real stories from WW2 to life. The American campaign follows the US assault on Japan where you play as Pvt. Miller. The Soviet Campaign follows the story of Dimitri Patrenko led by Viktor Reznov.

World at War’s accuracy in telling the story, the gory combat, and the gameplay is absolutely stunning. From sniper missions to using a flamethrower, it has it all. The ‘Vendetta’ mission that introduces Reznov and Patrenko is absolutely brilliant. From being singled out in Stalingrad to taking the fight to the Germans, the game shows us exactly what happened in WW2. Even the background score is mesmerizing and will give you goosebumps in times of intense combat. The final mission involves the fall of Nazi Germany as the forces take over Berlin. This game was a visual and storytelling masterpiece that was admired by all.

There are multiple reasons this COD title makes it to the number one spot. The story, visuals, combat, setting, mechanics and even music of the game is damn near perfect. The story is a sequel to Modern Warfare, following the death of Imran Zakhaev. It sees Makarov, one of Zakhaev’s former Lieutenants, plotting an attack on a Russian Airport. This is also considered one of the most brutal missions in the franchise. In a twist, he then murders an American infiltrator Joseph Allen. This then leads Russia to believe that America plotted the terrorist attack and thus begins the Russian invasion of Washington.

As the game progresses, Soap McTavish is tasked with rescuing Makarov’s no. 1 enemy from a Russian gulag. It turns out to be Captain Price who agrees to help them in taking down Makarov. But in a very interesting turn of events, General Shepherd betrays the team and kills Roach and Ghost as he wanted all the glory for himself. From missions in the tundra to the favelas of Brazil, to the streets of Washington DC to the desert, this game allows you to take complete control in every situation. This game was recently remastered and released in March 2020. The answer to your question of ‘Which is the best Call Of Duty game of all time?’, Modern Warfare 2 is probably it.

So there you have it, the top 5 COD titles of all time. We would also love your inputs for the same. If you have any suggestions for additions to the list, do let us know in the comments.
