The decade is coming to a close which means it is time to declare he very best in he sport of tennis. Here are the Top Ten tennis players of the decade.

1. Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic has been the most dominating player in the last decade. The Serb won 15 Grand Slams in this decade which is more than any player. In addition to this, he won 61 titles this decade which includes  29 masters 1000 titles and 4 ATP Finals. He also set multiple records in this decade. By winning the 2016 French Open, he became the first man to hold 4 grand slam titles on 3 different surfaces. In 2015 he won over 21 million dollars setting a record for most prize money in a calendar year. With all these achievements, Novak Djokovic is definitely the best player of the decade.

2. Rafael Nadal 

Right behind Novak Djokovic is Rafael Nadal. He won 13 Grand Slams this decade which is not far from Novak Djokovic. He also won 48 titles which includes 20 Masters titles. He also set multiple records in this decade. He broke the record for most titles won at a single grand slam by winning his 12th French Open. He also became the first man to win 10 titles at any event not just at one event but three events. He has definitely been one of the most dominating tennis players this decade.

3. Roger Federer

Despite his age, Roger Federer has still managed to make it as one of the best players of this decade. He won 42 titles this decade which includes 5 Grand Slams, 12 Masters titles and 1 ATP Finals title. He also set many records this decade. He became first man to win 20 Grand Slams by winning the 2018 Australian Open. He also broke the record for most Wimbledon titles by winning his 8th title in 2017. These achievements are amazing especially considering Roger Federer’s age.

4. Andy Murray

It is only fitting that the ‘Big 4’ occupy the top 4 spots in this list. In the last few years, Andy Murray suffered due to injuries but before that he was competing extremely well against the other members of the ‘Big 4’. He won 32 titles this decade which included 3 Grand Slams, 10 Masters titles and 1 ATP Finals. In 2016, he won over 16 million dollars in prize money which is only second to Novak Djokovic’s record.

5. Stan Wawrinka 

Stan Wawrinka has often been described as ‘Tennis’ great latecomer’ as he found a lot of success late in his career. He won 15 titles this last decade out of which 3 were grand slams and 1 was a Masters title. In his 3 Grand Slam triumphs, he beat the no.1 player to win the title. At his best, he won of the few players who could challenge the ‘Big 4’ at the Grand Slams. He has recently found his form after recovering from knee surgeries. We should see him competing well in 2020.

6. & 7. Bryan Brothers

The Bryan Brothers – Bob and Mike have been one of the most dominating doubles pair in the history of tennis. They together won 9 Grand Slam titles and also an ATP Finals titles. During Bob Bryan’s injury Mike partnered with fellow american Jack Sock to win 2 more Grand Slams in 2018 and a ATP Finals title. Mike Bryan holds the record for most doubles’ Grand Slams with 18. The Bryan Brothers together have won 39 Masters titles which is another record. These achievements clearly make them the best doubles’ pair this decade.

8. Marin Cilic 

The Croatian has played  some extremely good tennis this past decade. This good tennis led him to win his first Grand Slam at the 2014 US Open beating Japanese star Kei Nishikori. He also reached the final of the 2017 Wimbledon and the 2018 Australian Open. At the beginning of 2018, he reached a ranking of world no. 3. These achievements make him one of the best tennis players this decade.

9. Juan Martin Del Potro

Juan Martin Del Potro did suffer a lot this decade because of a number of injuries but he also achieved a lot. He won the Olympic Bronze in 2012 and the Olympic Silver in 2016. In 2018, he won his first Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells beating Roger Federer and also reached the final of the 2018 US Open. That same year, he also reached a ranking  of world no.3. He has definitely been one of the best tennis players this decade.

10. David Ferrer

Spain was in tears at the 2019 Mutua Madrid Open as David Ferrer retired from tennis. An amazing career full of so many achievements came to a close. David Ferrer won 27 titles in his illustrious career winning one Masters title back in 2012. He reached finals of 6 other Masters titles and also the finals of the 2013 French Open. David Ferrer was a player who could have won a Grand Slam but was very unlucky but he still was one of the best players this decade.
