Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar is edging closer towards a Barcelona return as a potential deal between the two clubs could be agreed as early as today.

The 27-year old is desperate to rejoin his former club after two inconsistent years at the Parc des Princes. Neymar was signed by Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in 2017 for a mammoth 222m which holds the record for the highest transfer fee ever paid.

The French champions are prying to succeed in the Champions League but Neymar’s injury troubles as well as off-field misconducts last season meant that he could not impact their season in a way he would have wanted.

The former Barcelona man has reportedly grown frustrated with his tarnished image at Paris Saint-Germain and a return to the Camp Nou could help him recover his place among football’s best. As a result, he is willing to take a huge 50% wage-cut so that the Spanish giants can afford him.

Esporte Interativo’s journalist Marcelo Bechler, who was the first to break Neymar’s big-money move to Paris Saint-Germain two years ago, has claimed that the Brazilian’s father and his lawyer will meet Barcelona representative Andre Cury in the Catalan capital on Tuesday.

He also stated that both parties are “confident” of a breakthrough in the deal, referring to it as “D Day”. Despite the rumours regarding the potential inclusion of Ousmane Dembele or Philipe Coutinho in Barcelona’s offer for Neymar, Bechler confirmed that no player has been sought by Paris Saint-Germain.

The Ligue 1 champions begin their pre-season training on the 8th of July, but reports claim that Neymar won’t be returning to the Paris Saint-Germain camp anytime soon. He is currently recovering from an ankle injury which ruled him out of the Copa America finals.

Neymar was last seen in the stands during Brazil’s quarter-final win over Paraguay. He will no doubt be present when his team face Argentina in a mouth-watering semi-final clash tomorrow.
