Sakshi Malik, the 22-year-old from Rohtak, Haryana, ended India’s wait and won the first medal at the Rio Games. She defeated Aisuluu Tynybekova 8-5 in 58kg Freestyle Wrestling to win the bronze medal bout. Sakshi was 0-5 down but fought back to seal the bout 8-5 in her favour in a thrilling contest. With 7 seconds left on the clock, Sakshi Malik brilliantly produced a move which yielded three points and sealed the bout and thereby winning India’s first medal at Rio 2016 Olympics.

It wasn’t a good start for the 23-year-old as she was trailing a 0-5 in first Round and like in three out of the four bouts she played earlier yesterday, she came back from behind to produce the moves when they mattered the most, and seal the win.

Twitterati were delgihted on Sakshi Malik’s Win and appreciated her. Tributes were pouring in for her endlessly. She is undoubtedly India’s Hero.
