The top clubs across Europe have proposed a revamp for the format of the Champions League and UEFA are prepared to take it under consideration. Among the major proposals are the suggestion that the group stage be made into two groups of eight teams each, ensuring fourteen matches for every team in the group stage.

The group stage is to be preceded by an expanded knockout round, so that teams can reach the group stages by merit. The proposals have been made as smaller teams make it to the group stages in the current format and matches including these teams do not draw up enough revenue. The proposed changes can only be applied after the 2017-18 season as the current TV Rights deal runs till then.
