UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier spoke to BT Sport ahead of his highly anticipated clash at UFC 257 on Fight Island. Poirier takes on Conor McGregor in a virtual title eliminator and comes in as a rematch 6 years in the making.

The aforementioned lightweights are two of the very best on the planet, and their resumes are a testament to the same.

Dustin Poirier has an opportunity to play spoilsport to the UFC’s plan to have McGregor fight Khabib Nurmagomedov again.

UFC President Dana White candidly spoke out on a plan to have the Khabib vs McGregor rematch if the Irishman wins. The course for Poirier isn’t as well defined; however, there’s plenty to fight for.

Additionally, Poirier touched upon his path to victory when it comes to facing The Notorious one yet again. The two have evolved greatly since their last fight and have continued to add new facets to their games. Not to mention, he also broached his last fight and was mindful of the mistakes he needed to correct.

“I’ve had plenty of weeks of training camp to sit back and lay down in bed every night, thinking about how this thing is going to play out. I really feel like I can submit him, I can win a decision, I can knock him out as well.

“There’s not a place this fight goes where I’m uncomfortable with the position I’m in. I have submissions from every position, I can defend myself and I’ve worked so hard on my… Keeping myself protected in there even in the chaos.

“I know I made mistakes as recently as the Dan Hooker fight. Brawling and getting hit with shots I shouldn’t have. I’m just committed to my craft of getting better, and I want to show you guys that.

“Wherever this fight goes, I can win. I can win a decision, submission, knockout.”

Dustin Poirier has certainly shown that he has the tools required to beat McGregor this time around. He isn’t the same man he was when he faced the Irishman back in 2014, and his durability has increased tenfold.

Moreover, he’s even managed to pick up a championship in that time, truly showcasing his growth.
