“Waiting to Punish You Again”- Floyd Mayweather Sends Conor McGregor a Message to Come Out of Retirement

Floyd Mayweather took a jab at Conor McGregor as the latter took to Instagram to announce that he is celebrating his retirement.

The Notorious One announced immediately after UFC 250 that he will no longer fight. Shortly thereafter, he took to Instagram to share the picture of a cake, which read, “Happy Retirement Daddy.”

Floyd Mayweather reacted with a subtle jab at McGregor.

He wrote:

“If I’m not mistaken, didn’t you tell Mike Tyson you could beat me if we fought a second time? Now you’re quitting! I thought you wanted to beat the best? Well, if you decide to come back, I will be waiting to punish you again.”

Looks like Floyd is looking forward to quenching the Irishman’s thirst for action. The two earlier met back in 2017, for a crossover boxing match.

While McGregor was able to last the length of 10 rounds, he eventually succumbed to Floyd’s superior boxing as “Money” won via TKO.

However, Floyd never completely turned down the possibility of another fight. And with McGregor looking to hang up his gloves due to no “real” fights coming his way, we might just be in for the most “real” fight of them all. Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 2.

Why did Conor McGregor decide to hang up his gloves?

Conor’s retirement announcement came as a shock to fight fans. He was ready for a great season this year and kept repeating that he was eager to fight.

However, due to the coronavirus, the UFC has had a lot of trouble in keeping its operations on track. Even though Conor had a lot of possible opponents, no fight actually materialized. He said,

“The game just does not excite me, and that’s that. All this waiting around. There’s nothing happening. I’m going through opponent options, and there’s nothing really there at the minute. There’s nothing that’s exciting [to] me.”

Excitement is what a warrior longs for. But, as Dana White said, nothing is controllable at the moment, given the dire situation that the world is going through.

Thus, the Floyd Mayweather offer comes as a saving grace. Conor has expressed the wish to fight Mayweather in a rematch more than once. And with the UFC unable to make him a fight that makes sense, a money fight with Floyd and a chance to settle the score seems like the most viable option for McGregor.
