Daniel Cormier last stepped into the octagon to take on Stipe Miocic in August 2019. Who knew that the Stipe fight would be the last fight of his career. For the UFC heavyweight contender has revealed that he may hang up his gloves if the Coronavirus pandemic doesn’t end by the end of the summer.

Following their last fight, all DC has been thinking about is, getting Stipe back into the octagon. But now, the Coronavirus epidemic poses a new threat to the UFC. And is forcing DC to think about his future in the sport instead.

“I don’t think it’s shifted too much. I think by late summer we should be getting back rolling as a country, as an organization. It affects the ability to go into the gym right now as I would be. But I don’t know the effects of that with some of these other things.”- Daniel Cormier

The epidemic has been impeding with daily life and functioning. Due to which DC may have to end his career without the UFC Heavyweight title around his waist.

“Yeah, this thing starts going to late fall, getting into the winter, there’s no way. I’d be done. Yeah, I think it needs to happen by the summer.”- Daniel Cormier

As things are looking right now, the chances of everything going back to normal seem slim to none. However, if the fight is to take place near winter or fall, it may be too late for the former champion.

Daniel Cormier Before The Coronavirus Outbreak

DC was rather confident about his chances of earning the title before things took a turn for the worse.

“If (Miocic) doesn’t (fight), we’ll see what happens. We’ll see if there’s an opportunity for an interim championship or maybe he would strip him of the title. He’s a guy that’s won one fight in two years. Over the course of those two years, he will have fought twice, so it’s not like he’s the most active fighter.”- Daniel Cormier

Cormier is someone who has spoken about retirement quite openly in the past. The fighter recently turned 41 and has always stressed that he is not keen on fighting much past the age of 40. Therefore, this may just be the end of the line for the American Kickboxing Academy fighter.

However, the opportunity of taking on Stipe Miocic in a trilogy fight is what keeps him going.
