Kamaru Usman is one of the greatest welterweights in the history of MMA. He recently revealed that he used to watch the fights of legendary boxing icon Mike Tyson when he was growing up. As such, he also revealed that ‘Iron’ once angered his father back when he was still an active boxer.

Mike Tyson was known for packing immense power into his punches. Most of his wins came via knockout, and many fighters like Kamaru Usman would look up to him as an inspiration. Even ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’s father was an avid fan of Tyson. Let’s see what Usman had to say.

Kamaru Usman’s father used to host fight parties

The former UFC welterweight champion made an appearance on Patrick Bet-David’s podcast recently. There, he revealed that he and his father used to order fight events, and Mike Tyson was their go-to guy. They enjoyed watching ‘Iron’ fight. Kamaru Usman said, “My father [and I], we used to order the fights growing up and [Mike] Tyson was that guy.”

Moreover, Usman also revealed that his father used to host parties with his friends whenever they wanted to watch boxing matches. However, since the UFC star was young, he and other kids were not allowed to join his father whenever his friends gathered at his house. “My dad loved to have fight parties. So he would have his fight parties and all his friends are there and we’re just kids, so kids aren’t allowed in the living room,” Kamaru Usman added. Although Kamaru Usman’s father was a fan of Mike Tyson, there was one instance when ‘Iron’ angered his father. Let’s take a look at that front.

Usman’s father was angry after Mike Tyson made quick work of an opponent

Kamaru Usman would always wonder what was happening when his father gathered with his friends to watch the fights. Then he mentioned one instance when his father was getting prepared and getting to grab a drink for a fight while Mike Tyson walked out to the ring. Usman said, “We wanted to see what was going on too and there was one particular [fight]… Tyson was walking out and my dad… he goes in and gets some drinks for his buddy.”

However, by the time ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’s father came back to join the bunch, the fight was already over. That angered his father since he did not get to see what went down after having ordered the fight for a considerable amount of money. “On his way back, he hears screaming. He runs into the garage. ‘What happened? What Happened?’ Fight’s over. My dad was p*ssed… When you pay $39.99 back then for a Tyson fight, and it over, yeah, most people were p*ssed,” Kamaru Usman added.

Although Kamaru Usman’s father missed some moments from Mike Tyson’s fights, he always got the chance to watch his son battle inside the Octagon and even dominate his opponents. Moreover, ‘Iron’ was known for finishing his opponents quickly, so it may not have been a surprise to witness that particular fight ending so soon.
