Chael Sonnen recently posted a video on his YouTube channel discussing the importance of Conor McGregor to the UFC. It appears that the MMA legend believes things have changed, and the former double champion is not as important for Dana White’s promotion as he was back when he was at his peak. Sonnen claimed that this is especially because the UFC has not had a very beneficial period with ‘The Notorious’ in recent times.

“Does the UFC need Conor McGregor? No… well, they haven’t had Conor in a meaningful time period of time… I think it was two years, and they sold out event after event after event,” said Chael Sonnen. Despite ‘The American Gangster’ revealing the real situation, he thinks that Conor McGregor is still the biggest draw.

“But it is also true to understand red panty night is real. Conor McGregor is the biggest star whether you’re selling out or not… by the way you also got a PPV portion of which they list the top 10 records and all 10 belong to Conor McGregor,” Sonnen added. He claimed that there are two sides to every situation. Nevertheless, people will always talk about Conor McGregor, which is apparent in their eagerness to see the Irishman fight soon.

Dana White faces another UFC 297 blow

A few weeks ago, Jan Blachowicz had to pull out from his scheduled fight against Aleksandar Rakić at UFC 297. However, a shoulder injury forced the Polish fighter to pull out. Meanwhile, a similar situation popped up with Dana White facing another setback. Carlos Ulberg, who was scheduled to face Dominick Reyes, also pulled out of the first 2024 pay-per-view.

Dominick Reyes announced this news on social media, confirming that the New Zealand fighter suffered an injury, too. Some sources have claimed that the UFC is considering rescheduling the fight on March 30th at Atlantic City, but an official confirmation is yet to be received from the UFC. It remains to be seen how Dana White navigates this situation, as fans have expressed their disappointment regarding the situation.
