Usman Nurmagomedov, a family member of the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov, and a champion in Bellator is now a man under suspicious circumstances. Nurmagomedov was recently tested for PEDs and the tests came back positive. And when you put a positive doping test next to the surname ‘Nurmagomedov,’ things will inevitably be blown out of proportion. Now, fans question whether or not the fighter’s future hangs in a balance.

Thankfully, they have been provided clarity by an AKA associate. The insider knew about the behind-the-scenes happenings of the fighter. Khabib’s cousin is currently the reigning lightweight champion at Bellator. However, will he remain one after the latest fiasco? Let’s find out.

Usman Nurmagomedov hails from the same family tree as Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, being from Dagestan has always come with its doubts. Dagestani fighters have often been accused of abusing PEDs but there’s never been any stable proof.

Now, with Usman Nurmagomedov testing positive for one, will things change for him? The questions bear an interesting answer. Veteran MMA referee John McCarthy was recently in a conversation with AKA product and ex- UFC and Bellator star Josh Thomson, and Thomson had some interesting news on the subject.

“The question is, are they are they going to strip him of his title?” asked McCarthy to which Thomson said. “They’re not… I already talked to Bellator. They are not going to strip him of the title, as a matter of fact. And as a matter of fact, they may potentially run that fight back to see who stays in the lightweight World Grand Prix.”

Clearly, failing the test will have grave consequences for the fighter. However, it looks like Bellator is being reasonable with the offense and there’s a very good reason for it. Nurmagomedov failed the test because he didn’t declare a drug he was using with a prescription. Here’s how Thomson detailed the incident.

Nurmagomedov had reportedly been sick before the test. He was given prescription drugs to get better, and that’s what ended up hurting him. Thomson said that it was his being unresponsible that ultimately took him down. Here’s the story.

“He got sick a couple months ago. He was given a prescription drug. . . it wasn’t even so much that it is illegal to use. It’s a prescription drug for him, which was prescribed to him by his doctor. But it was the fact that he didn’t list it on the paperwork. That’s all it is,” Thomson told McCarthy.

Now, the fighter has been put on a six-month suspension with a $50K fine slapped on top of it thanks to the issue. Until then, his title won’t be stripped away from him. Once the sabbatical is over, who would you like Usman Nurmagomedov to fight?
