“The question is, are they are they going to strip him of his title?” asked McCarthy to which Thomson said. “They’re not… I already talked to Bellator. They are not going to strip him of the title, as a matter of fact. And as a matter of fact, they may potentially run that fight back to see who stays in the lightweight World Grand Prix.”
Clearly, failing the test will have grave consequences for the fighter. However, it looks like Bellator is being reasonable with the offense and there’s a very good reason for it. Nurmagomedov failed the test because he didn’t declare a drug he was using with a prescription. Here’s how Thomson detailed the incident.
How did Nurmagomedov fail the doping test?

Nurmagomedov had reportedly been sick before the test. He was given prescription drugs to get better, and that’s what ended up hurting him. Thomson said that it was his being unresponsible that ultimately took him down. Here’s the story.

“He got sick a couple months ago. He was given a prescription drug. . . it wasn’t even so much that it is illegal to use. It’s a prescription drug for him, which was prescribed to him by his doctor. But it was the fact that he didn’t list it on the paperwork. That’s all it is,” Thomson told McCarthy.

Now, the fighter has been put on a six-month suspension with a $50K fine slapped on top of it thanks to the issue. Until then, his title won’t be stripped away from him. Once the sabbatical is over, who would you like Usman Nurmagomedov to fight?
