Aspen Ladd was set to take on Macy Chiasson in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Sandhagen vs Dillashaw this weekend. Unfortunately, Chiasson had to pull out last minute, leaving Ladd without a fight this weekend. Ladd was looking to make a return to the UFC Octagon after a long absence. She last competed in 2019 and secured a win via T/KO over Yana Kunitskaya.
After her fight was canceled, she took to social media and issued a call out to the former champion of the division, Miesha Tate.
@macychiasson has pulled out on weigh in Eve. This absolutely blows. Who wants to see me fight @mieshatate ? @bokamotoespn @mmajunkiedotcom @theschmo312 @lynchonsports @kbheat @espn @ufc @ufcnewsalerts @mickmaynard2 @danawhite pic.twitter.com/J3mWVIHpqH

A last-minute cancelation of a bout is disappointing for any fighter. More so for Ladd as she was looking to end a long hiatus from the UFC Octagon and re-establish her position as one of the top contenders of the 135 lbs division of the UFC.

Is Aspen Ladd vs Miesha Tate the fight to make?
‘Cupcake’ Tate made her long-anticipated return to competition last weekend against Marion Reneau. Despite her long absence, Tate didn’t seem to have lost any edge and put on a dominant performance. She even earned a finish in what was her first appearance in the Octagon since UFC 205 in 2016.

Tate is looking for a renowned opponent for her next fight. Ladd certainly fits the bill as one. Her body of work at the women’s bantamweight division has been very impressive so far. Also, both fighters are looking to get back to title contention sooner rather than later. So, as a battle of two top contenders, this fight certainly makes sense.

However, as Tate just fought last weekend, she might need some time off before getting back to another training camp. Hence, Ladd might have to wait a bit if she indeed wants to fight Tate next. However, if she gets a fight under her belt in the meantime before a potential showdown against ‘Cupcake‘, that would make sense as per the timeline as well.
