Colby Covington Details His Conversation With Dana White About His Next Fight Against Kamaru Usman

Following Leon Edwards victory over Nate Diaz at UFC 263, there has been much speculation as to who will challenge Kamaru Usman for the title next. Before ‘Rocky’ won his fight against Diaz, Colby Covington was touted to be the number 1 title challenger. And now it seems like it is going to remain the same, and Çhaos’ will challenge Usman for the title soon.

During a recent interview, Covington revealed he had a talk with Dana White recently and shared news of the same.

“Yeah, I was talking to them a little bit last night. They just reassured me they are gonna get this fight done. We don’t know when it’s gonna be. Marty’s trying to find every excuse in the book not to fight.”

Even during the UFC 263 post fight conference Dana White had talked about this issue. And White’s remark during the conference resonated with what Covington said during the interview.

White had made it quite clear that even though Edwards was doing great. He believes Covington is the one next in line for a title shot.

“That’s always a fight that we can make,” Dana White said about a potential Masvidal vs Edwards fight. “That fight’s always going to be hanging out there. Leon’s the No.3 ranked guy in the world, so we’ll see what’s next for him. I’m not sure if it’s Masvidal. But Colby Covington is the next guy in line for the title.” 

White’s remarks clarify that the next title fight will be between Covington and Usman. And Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards might have to wait for some time before he gets a title opportunity.

While many people including Dana White believe that ‘Chaos’ should fight for the title next. There are some out there that believe ‘Rocky’ is the more deserving candidate.

‘Rocky’ is undefeated in his last 10 UFC fights spanning over 6 years. The fighter last lost a fight back in 2015 and that too against Kamaru Usman. Therefore, many people believe that the consistent victories achieved by Edwards warrants him a title shot.
