McGregor vs Volkanovski? – The fight fans didn’t know they wanted

Volkanovski spoke to ESPN’s Phil Murphy backstage in the immediate aftermath of his win over Brian Ortega. Alexander ‘The Great’ was asked to share his thoughts on Conor McGregor’s comments and Volkanovski didn’t disappoint. He expressed an interest to fight McGregor at featherweight and was more than happy to welcome back the former champ-champ.

“Come back down to featherweight. He reckons he’s a man of the featherweight division and again, I got the strategy. I’m obviously tough and yeah, I’m a whole different beast than what he’s used to in this division. If he wants to come back down, welcome, I would love it.”

“While we’re waiting for the next contender, let’s do it. We got a couple of months, I’ll stay here if I have to. I’m keen.”

It’s highly unlikely that Conor McGregor will make the grueling cut down to 145-pounds at this stage of his career. The probable way that the aforementioned fight gets booked is if Volkanovski decides to move up to the lightweight division.

Chiefly, this wouldn’t be an unfounded move since Alexander Volkanovski had a walking-around weight of over 200-pounds at one point. He has fought in the middleweight and welterweight division so moving to lightweight would be par for the course. Time will be the best indication as to whether either man takes some serious steps to make the fight happen.
