Is Khamzat Chimaev's victory over Whittaker a sign of his unstoppable rise in the UFC?

Robert Whittaker succumbed to another loss at UFC 308 via submission, which was, to a certain degree, not expected. ‘The reaper’ was pretty confident that his two camps in preparation for Khamzat Chimaev would pay off well, which didn’t turn out to be true. But what was concerning during the fight was that he apparently broke his jaw when ‘Borz’ tried to lock in the choke.

There were pictures of Robert Whittaker in the aftermath of his fight against Khamzat Chimaev, and it really didn’t look good at all. Dana White addressed that during the post-fight press conference, confirming that the Aussie star’s jaw is indeed broken, but the UFC boss was well prepared for it. “As soon as that happened, I picked up the phone, and I called the truck and I was like, ‘His jaw popped,'” White stated during the post-fight presser.

The UFC CEO would thereafter mention that they didn’t expect Robert Whittaker to give up so early, even when there was no proper submission move locked in. “I didn’t know what happened either, why he tapped so quick because Mick [Maynard] came over and we were like, ‘He didn’t even have a choke in. It’s weird. Yeah, he popped the jaw. When you do that, it splits and the teeth get all messed up. Rob has that right now,” Dana White added.

Moreover, while claiming, “I don’t know [what the condition is] yet. It’s not good,” Dana White insinuated that Robert Whittaker was getting medical attention after his fight. On the other hand, things seem to be looking good for Khamzat Chimaev because the 55-year-old would later have a word with him.

The last year hasn’t been easy for Khamzat Chimaev, who was dealing with some very severe health problems. While pulling out of UFC’s first-ever Saudi Arabia event, Dana White claimed that ‘Borz’ was “violently ill,” raising a lot of questions in people’s minds. There were speculations that maybe Chimaev would never be able to fight again. But as we witnessed it, he made a statement with his win over Robert Whittaker.
