The former lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, was the number 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC. He fought his last fight at UFC 254 after his father passed away because of coronavirus complications.

‘The Eagle’ submitted Justin Gaethje and announced his retirement whilst chatting with Jon Anik following his twenty-ninth MMA win. The UFC never wanted the Dagestani fighter to retire, and they made efforts to schedule his next and last fight.

Unfortunately, ‘The Eagle’ never accepted any offer and remained steadfast on his retirement. Finally, the UFC relented and announced plans to move on with the lightweight division. In perfect sync with this, Nurmagomedov posted about his retirement on Instagram and thanked Dana White for everything.

The former multi-division UFC champion Conor McGregor also followed this news. He posted an old photo of both the guys together on Instagram.

Conor McGregor wrote, ” Happy retirement kid, smell ya later. Never forget who came in the game and made ye. Straight from my big Irish ba**s. Remember folks, if you hate cutting weight so much, all you have to do is move up a division. God bless”.

‘The Notorious’ thinks it’s just because of him that Khabib Nurmagomedov has become a huge star. He believes he hated cutting weight for the fights, and this is the real reason he is retiring.

McGregor is someone who moved up a division and usurped Nurmagomedov’s spot for a title fight at UFC 205, which led to a call-out that culminated in a bus attack that led to an official bout.

This all happened as pre-fight tensions finally boiled over. However, the rematch never happened as ‘The Eagle’ believed he had already claimed the win in a convincing fashion.

What little possibilities there were of this taking place ended with McGregor’s loss at UFC 257 and, furthermore, with ‘The Eagle’s final decision on his career.
