Khabib Nurmagomedov is undoubtedly one of the best fighters in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The Russian fighter has numerous records to his name, and the entire UFC fraternity is in awe of what he brings to the table.
The Eagle holds the record for the longest reign as UFC Lightweight Champion, having held the title since April 2018. The lightweight fighter has been unstoppable inside the octagon, but outside it, he keeps his calm and wears his heart on his sleeve.
A lot of what the Russian delivered in the octagon came from the never-ending support he got from his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who passed away early this year.
There is no argument that The Eagle’s father played a key role in making him the fighter that he is. One of the best moments of him was when he teared up while Khabib was being announced as the new lightweight champion.
Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was his coach and mentor. He continued to teach a variety of martial arts forms to The Eagle during his youth. Thus, winning the UFC lightweight championship appeared to be an emotional moment for Khabib and his father.
There are numerous special moments that the duo has shared, be it during their training sessions with the bear or the moments of glory inside the octagon.
One of the moments that went viral of ‘The Eagle’s’ father was when he got the opportunity to see the Dagestani phenom tearing his opponent up for the first time. The Russian, unsurprisingly, won the thrilling match against Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi.
UFC fans are well aware of the kind of intimate relationship that they shared. It is quite evident that his father’s demise has shocked him to the core because of which he announced his retirement from the sport this year.
This is what the legendary fighter said in one of his interviews, “Like my father for me was like coach, brother, friend, you know like everything. He never let me be a boss.
“He say when you become boss you’re going to lose. This is very dangerous thing. You have to stay in your mind, white belt always. You have to learn always.
“My father take young guys, like 7 fighters, when they were very young and make them UFC fighters,” Nurmagomedov said.
“He worked with them for 14 years. This is not like someone with 10 years in wrestling and goes to [an MMA gym] and they make him UFC fighter. My father, when he have student, they come to him with nothing.”
The Eagle is regarded as the best fighters that the sport has ever seen. The father-son duo has definitely shared numerous memorable moments with each other, and their fans will remember them forever.
