It won’t be wrong to say that the UFC is one of the most loved MMA promotions on the planet right now. The company has seen many great champions making history inside the cage and marking several victories to their name. In the world’s top MMA promotion, it is incredibly difficult to consistently mark wins against the best of the best. However, there are fighters who have still managed to hold proud records of winning fights one after the other.
Over the years, the UFC has seen some exceptional fighters who were about to make history but eventually had to face defeat. On the other hand, there are champions who have continued to grow in their UFC career. It is truly phenomenal to get several wins on a streak.
Here’s a look at the top five UFC fighters who have had the longest winning streaks in the history of the organization.
The fifth spot on the list has been grabbed by Kamaru Usman. The MMA fighter holds th welterweight championship. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ may not be the most liked fighter in the octagon, but he certainly is one of the most talented that the UFC has. His ability to dominate his opponents inside the cage has always impressed viewers. Furthermore, his style of defeating his opponents through takedowns and his ground control has always been praised by his fans.
The Nigerian Nightmare has just lost one out of the 17 professional fights that he has fought. The fighter has been unstoppable throughout his career, apart from facing defeat in his second match at the UFC. After that, Usman has remained the undefeated welterweight champion in the UFC and has continued his reign with a winning streak of 12 fights.
Khabib Nurmagomedov, ‘The Eagle’ of UFC, is number four on the list. The Eagle not only holds the auspicious title of being the lightweight champion, but also has a proud record of 28-0 to his name. Khabib perhaps has the best record in the entire MMA promotion and his winning streak of 12 UFC fights definitely makes him a strong contender to be on the list.
The Eagle started his MMA career in 2009 and in 2011 he signed his first UFC deal. Khabib has been unstoppable and the list of fighters he has defeated includes big names like Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor. Nurmagomedov is quite dedicated to the sport, and he said, “I know a lot of fighters fight for the money, but money is not everything for me. I know money is very important for life, but I have money. I never use MMA to make money. MMA for me is about my life, about my blood and about everything I do all my life. Money, I can make money with other stuff. I have money. I need the belt.”
Number three on this list is Georges St. Pierre. ‘GSP’ is one of the greatest MMA fighters in the UFC. He made his debut in 2004. The Canadian legend technically announced his retirement after he defeated Michael Bisping in UFC 217. However, he has teased plans of a return to fight ‘The Eagle’, so it’s safe to assume that the champion is not done yet.
The former welterweight and middleweight champion’s reign began when he defeated Matt Hughes and became the undisputed welterweight champion. ‘GSP’ has defended his title nine times in a row. Some of his greatest fights include bouts with Hughes, Johny Hendricks, and Michael Bisping in the year 2017. His winning streak of 13 makes for an inspiring number.
The number two spot on the list has been grabbed by Jon Jones. With 13 consecutive wins, ‘Bones’ has had an impressive career in the UFC. The only loss that he had to face was against Matt Hamill in his fourth UFC bout. Jones’ brilliant record was broken due to a controversial disqualification. Apart from this, the champion has reigned for about a decade. He became a two-time light heavyweight champion with 11 successful title defenses to his name.
While it cannot be denied that the great MMA fighter has been involved in a lot of controversies, his overall ability inside the cage has been phenomenal.
The much-awaited number one spot goes to the legend, Anderson Silva. Undoubtedly, ‘The Spider’ has been one of the best pound-for-pound fighters. He has a 16 fight winning streak to his name. In an interview in 2008, he said:
“I don’t think I am the best. I’m far from being the best in the world. People can say what they want, but I don’t believe I am yet. I can only say that when I stop fighting, I still have a lot to go through, and there are still many great fighters out there. There is no world-best. And no one is unbeatable. We all want perfection, but it’s almost impossible and I am after it at every moment. I always try to improve but it’s very difficult. I think that there is still a lot to be done, a lot to be lived, and improvements to make. It’s a big responsibility and I try not to think of it.”
The legendary former UFC middleweight champion remains the holder of the greatest winning streak in UFC history. The champion was just unstoppable from his debut in June 2006. Silva has defended his title on 10 consecutive occasions. Undoubtedly, ‘The Spider’ is one of the best fighters the UFC has ever seen.
