Gilbert Burns defeated Jorge Masvidal at UFC 287 after a back-and-forth that went on for all three rounds. Thereafter, ‘Durinho’ demanded to fight next only for the title after Colby Covington is done trying his luck at champ Leon Edwards. But ‘Rocky’ let his opinion known that he doesn’t seem to rate any of these fighters.

‘Durinho’ mentioned during the post-fight press conference that he doesn’t want just any other fight next. He wants to fight for the title. Burns even warned the UFC that if he doesn’t get a shot, he might consider leaving the promotion. Meanwhile, Leon Edwards has responded to a few fighters on social media.

Leon Edwards is riding high on an 11-fight winning streak, just one behind UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. After emerging victorious in the trilogy fight against former champion Kamaru Usman, President Dana White decided to pair Edwards up to go head-to-head against former title challenger Colby Covington. Now Gilbert Burns is also asking for a championship fight. But ‘Rocky’ is not interested in any of them.

Leon Edwards witnessed the co-main event on UFC 287 and tweeted to take a shot at Jorge Masvidal’s performance and his potential challengers. He tweeted, “F***ing bum Jorge fumbled the bag once again. None of them really deserve it. Who should I fight next?” ‘Gamebred’ mentioned that a win against his Brazilian opponent would have made him consider fighting for the title. With things not going in favor of Masvidal, he announced retirement following his third consecutive loss.

Burns gets named as the backup fighter for Covington vs Edwards

After Burns demanded to get into title contention, Dana White decided to accept his terms and named him as the backup fighter for Leon Edwards’ second title defense. The UFC President appeared in the post-fight press conference and said, “Yeah, I love that. Why not? Deal. You [Gilbert Burns] got a deal.”

But White did not provide any confirmation on whether Burns will get the welterweight title shot in the future in the same way Colby Covington did. Leon Edwards might not agree with what Dana White has planned for him. But he’ll have to oblige and fight Colby Covington next, with Gilbert Burns on standby. It will be interesting to see how things pan out in the future.
